Public Education is Important to Everyone

E Squared ~ Effective Educators

  • Join or form a PTA or PTSA.  Statistics show that schools with strong parent organizations get better results.
  • Attend all the meetings at school. This is your child's job.  Not showing up says that you really don't care what kind of job they are doing.

  • Spend a day in your child's classroom or school.  Schools who make it difficult or uncomfortable for you to be there, are schools who know you wouldn't like what you see.  You don't have to make an appointment.

  • Know who your board member is and let them know of problems you might have.  The same holds true for your superintendent.

  • Ask how you can help.  Imagine being in a room with 20+ small children...everyone can use a hand.

  • Read to you children.  Children who are read to every day for 15 minutes place in the top 25% in reading scores.

  • If the school calls to speak to you about behavioral problems with your child, don't automatically say, "My child would never do that".  Trust me!  I never thought that my 8 year old and his buddy would take great delight in standing at opposite ends of the bathroom and try and pee on one another.

  • Believe in your child and their teacher.  Perhaps our buddy Devon can convince you.  Take a few minutes and follow this link http://www.youtube.com:80/watch?v=HAMLOnSNwzA
