Manage Your Career
Changing education one teacher at a time.
Early on it became apparent that for all of the training that teachers are given, managing their career was not one of them. Our background as former corporate recruiters gives us the knowledge to help educators understand when and why they should make a move.
Reasons to make a career move
There are only two reasons to make a career move. One or both of these items need to be in place before changing jobs.
- To gain a new skill. We understand that the more you know the greater value you are to a district. This is one of the reasons we support a new pay structure which is based not on advanced degrees but on areas of certfication. A candidate with a Bachelors degree but is certified to teach in five different areas has far greater flexibility then someone who has their PhD but is only certified in one area. Educators need to look at the amount of professional development they will be recieveing as a criteria for making a move.
- Gain a new level of responsiblity. We know that employees in the United States change positions every 3 to 5 years. Staying longer means that you run the risk of working in the "auto pilot" mode. Children are not like flight plans, you have to be awake and paying attention.
